Video 1
Observations:
Starts with frying pan, grease bubbling
Egg is simply dropped into grease and begins to cook
Male voice
Few words on screen
Serious and Strait to the point
Leaves no room for "questions"
uses wording "Drug free America"
Inferences:
Audience seems to be anyone
seem to attempt to show no room for exception or anything other than "BAD"
again extremely simple probably so anyone can understand without out a doubt
male voice makes it soun more authoritative and almost factual
Pursues the watcher with "Drug free America" basically stating America is better without drugs and kind of pushing towards a "if you care about America you will stop drugs"
Video 2
Observations:
Person involved, female
Entire commercial based in a kitchen
Very dull and colorless
She beats the egg, and then the kitchen
Personal states correlations to body, family, friends, and money
Use of famous "icon" to get point across
Lots of anger and emotion in woman's voice
Audience is probably more focused on younger America
These Two commercials have the same point they are trying to get across to their viewers but very different ways of doing such. Commercial One the older commercial, seems to be addressed to almost anyone that can understand the message that is being said. It is also very simple just having an egg being dropped into grease. Then a very authoritative and almost factual voice seems to "state" that this is your brain on drugs. Leaves little to know room for questions or much further thought than simply drugs are bad. The second of these two videos is much more complex. It has many factors in it to address the same point. The commercial uses a female, a pop culture icon of the time, to reach younger most likely teenage viewers. Instead of just a simple frying pan the woman is in a dark, very dull and colorless kitchen. She Smashes the egg with the frying pan, to show the same idea as teh first commercial. But then goes on to smash other things in the room to make the message more personal, and compares these other things to friends, family, money, job, and ones own self esteem. This is a much more emotional argument than the first of the two. The second of the two in this age seems much more effective than the first. It gives a personal spin on the topic and has a person relating to the subject.
